Welcome to the Schock lab in the Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Department at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine! We are developmental biologists with a passion for pursing both basic science and translational research.
Our lab uses multiple developmental model organisms to investigate:
1) How neural crest cells, the progenitors of the facial skeleton, make cell fate decisions
and
2) Develop animal models for human craniofacial syndromes
We hope that our discoveries in both of these areas can lead to improved outcomes for patients with craniofacial syndromes.
We are highly dedicated to STEM education and introducing science to underrepresented groups. We believe that promoting diversity in science means building from the ground up to foster curiosity and a love for discovery at an early age.
